Well, he got more specific and I remembered the evening in question. About six months ago, he and his wife - both in their 50s - came in for a few glasses of wine. They were in town from Pennsylvania, visiting their daughter for the weekend, and had just finished dinner with the daughter and her new boyfriend. Let's just say that the dinner had not gone well and that they were less than impressed with the boyfriend. After the first glass, the mother began crying uncontrollably. The father explained to us about the dinner and said something about the "boyfriend" at which point the mother turned around and blurted out "He's NOT her boyfriend! He's just a fuck-buddy!"
You couldn't make this stuff up...
Well, last night the daughter got to hear the story for the first time, and that wonderful mixture of uncomfortable awkwardness and drunken uninhibited laughter ensued.

i need to get back into a more frequent rotation at enotria. great story...what did the mom look like?
Friday nights at Enotria have turned into a staple for me. We often open up bottles and have a great time. Yes, you're limited to what's in the store, but you get to drink good wines at retail pricing in a wine bar with fun people. And, you need to meet the Dentist Brothers - you'd get along famously...
hmmm. can't get there tonight, but maybe next friday.
Last night was good. Here's what we opened (in reverse order):
2005 Bodega Catena Zapata Cabernet Sauvignon Alta
2003 Arietta Red Wine (H Block Hudson Vineyards)
2005 Araujo Estate Altagracia Red Table Wine
2005 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder
2005 Darioush Cabernet Franc
I really liked the O'Shaughnessy and the Altagracia.
eclectic lineup, but not an inexpensive one. how does it work? people purchase a bottle at random and share?
Yes. This night I bought the O'Shaughnessy, the Dentist Brothers (Matt and Russ Mitchell) bought the Darioush and the Arietta, another couple (Michele and Chris - regulars, but first time they take part in this) bought the Altagracia, and James behind the bar got the Catena. This was a "better than average, but not unprecedented" night.
You never know who will show up, so sometimes it doesn't happen at all - it's all about momentum. The other person who sometimes joins in is Jen Iverson whom I invited to, but couldn't make the event with Leslie Fisher.
i met jen! she sat next to me @ the bergstrom tasting, but i was too stupid to remember that you had invited her to join us with leslie. she's very nice. i'll try to join you all this coming friday.
